According to this article on tinybuddha.com, we should set peace of mind as our highest goal – an organise our lives around it. So how do we truly achieve peace of mind?

“Sure, our circumstances affect our mental state, but they don’t have to control them, not if we make tiny choices for our well-being.”

So, what type of tiny choices is the article talking about? We’ve found 20 of our favourites, and we take a look at them below:

  • Sit in a quiet room and take 50 deep breaths, concentrating on your lungs expanding and contracting. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth
  • Take a quiet walk through a park, concentrating on the feeling of ground beneath your feet, wind in your hair and the sounds you hear around you
  • Call someone who wronged you in the past and tell them how it made you feel, and forgive them for what they did
  • Write down your mental burdens on a piece of paper, and burn it while watching the paper (and your worries) turn into ash
  • Get in touch with someone you’ve wronged recently, and apologise to them
  • Get yourself an adult colouring in book and a few coloured pencil crayons. Drawing is pretty much active meditation
  • Spend an hour decluttering a messy part of your home, and put things aside you can donate to a good cause
  • Create a list of things you love about yourself, and stick this list onto your fridge or somewhere you’ll be able to see it on a regular basis
  • Volunteer your time at a homeless shelter or orphanage, to prove to yourself that your life isn’t as bad as some people’s
  • Lastly, allocate time once a week where you spend an hour or two completely alone, doing something you love, and try to be present while doing so.
